Brief Update

1 min read
I have been super busy with both life and art, which sometimes seem to imitate each other, or so it seems.  I have a lot of new pieces and sketches that I want to share, but my scanner has given up the ghost, and so I'll have to make a trip to the copy place, which I always dread.  As caring and kind as their staff is, they don't know the first thing about properly scanning artwork, so I end up sending them back several times before they finally take my original advice and just have me do it myself.  The Lord is patient with me, so I can be patient with them.  Hope you all are having a blessed New Year!

Well, it's been a loooooooong time since my last update, so I'll spare the small details and skip to the big changes.  Last June, my wife gave birth to our first child, Gwendolyn.  She's beautiful and amazing, and I really love being a dad.  Our new family situation means that I've gone back to substitute teaching, which is a new adventure every day.  I have been out of practice for a while, art-wise, but having a daughter has really taught me to order my priorities.  I know that if I let myself get too rusty, any hope I have of making any sort of trade in the art industry will vanish.  So, I took a summer job that had a lot of free time in it and got back into the habit of sketching every day.  I also read up to book 4 of the Game of Thrones series (I know it's called Fire and Ice or something, but GoT is easier to write and remember.  And it makes more sense).  The first couple of sketches that I will post in the next few weeks will be of characters from that series.  I know that there's an HBO adaptation, but I wanted to jump-start my imagination by drawing the characters as I imagined them before letting TV do the imagining for me.

Hopefully, I'll be posting more work in the next few weeks, it all depends on how much access I have to a scanner.

Well, despite my lack of submissions, I have been busy!  I've been focusing on my writing a little more lately, not wanting that skill to go unused for the sake of the artwork.  I'll be posting some random sketches over the next few days, while I try not to think about the fact that I'm missing comic-con this week.  Next year, I'll be first in the door; this I swear.

Things have also been busy at church lately, and I'm learning to lead from the roots, and not from the top-down.  Well, back to work I go, keeping the goal ever in mind and on the horizon!

I completed the pencils on page 3 yesterday, and I'm very happy with the results.  I wish it were a little more dramatic, but hopefully the artwork is helping to add to the overall mystery of the story.  Does the priest have something to hide, or is he just a humble servant as he claims?  Why does he know that the arrows the Samurai was carrying were armor-piercing arrows?  Or does he?  These answers and more tonight, after I upload the page!  Now, onto page 4, which is so far looking really good.  Seriously, I think I had a breakthrough on drawing faces and rendering their shadows.  Peace!

Page 3 underway

Well, now that pages 1 and 2 are up in the gallery, I'm on to Page 3, which I expect to finish by the afternoon.  I might be able to get it scanned today, but I'm not sure.  At the very least, I'll post a WIP or something.  So far, I'm very happy with this project, but I've gotten literally zero feedback from the DA community.  If you're reading this, for the love of art, please leave a comment on one of the sequential pages!  I joined this site to get some feedback from fellow artists, so please, tell me what you think!
